Legal — RAG on your matter corpus, on your terms.
Privilege preserved. Chain-of-custody recorded. Every citation defensible.
Discovery, compliance Q&A across firm policies, drafting briefs and memos, and matter-knowledge research — running over your document management system, inside your perimeter, with the access controls your matter teams already enforce.
The regime
Legal work runs on documents that are, by default, either privileged, attorney work-product, or subject to a protective order. A Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system that handles them has to satisfy the same chain-of-custody, access-control, and auditability standards the matter team itself operates under. "Ship the brief to an external model" is not a strategy that survives a privilege challenge or an e-discovery production dispute.
Citorum runs inside your perimeter and respects the access-control attributes your Document Management System (DMS) already records: matter, client, jurisdiction, ethical-wall membership, and reviewer role. Retrievals are scoped to what the requesting user is entitled to see; prompts and responses are logged with the document identifiers and spans that grounded each claim; every answer carries a faithfulness score the reviewer can act on. Privilege never leaves the matter team's control.
Workflows
Four workflows for legal teams
Discovery & Research
Run e-discovery searches across matter-scoped document collections, surface case law and prior briefs by issue and jurisdiction, and trace every retrieval back to the production set or precedent it came from. Faceted filters on matter, custodian, date range, privilege flag, and document type — the model produces a research summary; the citations are what the associate actually clicks through to draft from.
Compliance Q&A
Answer questions against the firm's ethics rules, conflicts policy, retention schedule, and outside-counsel guidelines — with citations to the policy section that supports the answer. Adjudication labels flag ambiguous answers for a partner or general-counsel review before they enter the matter file. Ethical-wall membership is enforced at retrieval time, not after.
Drafting & Summarization
Produce first drafts of briefs, deposition summaries, contract-review memos, and discovery-response narratives — grounded in the matter corpus, with every factual claim traceable to the document span that supports it. The reviewing attorney sees what got cited and what didn't, so editing is targeted not exhaustive, and the work product is defensible if challenged.
Knowledge Q&A
Surface precedent across the firm's matter history — what arguments worked, what the panel ruled, which experts the team has used — without breaching matter walls. Faithfulness labels route uncertain answers to a knowledge-management reviewer; never silently presents a partner with an answer that doesn't hold up to citation review.
What changes for legal
The platform is the same; the configuration is matter-shaped.
Connectors target the document repositories legal teams actually run: iManage Work, NetDocuments, Relativity production sets, SharePoint matter sites, and matter-scoped object storage. Access-control attributes come from the DMS — matter identifier, client identifier, ethical-wall membership, reviewer role, jurisdiction — and are enforced at retrieval time so a search never returns a span the requesting user is not entitled to see.
Identity integrates with the firm's existing Identity Provider (IdP) so attorney, paralegal, and conflicts-team roles flow through unchanged. Reviewer queues map to the firm's review hierarchy: Review Recommended answers route to a senior associate or partner depending on the matter; Do Not Rely answers are never surfaced as authoritative. The audit log records every retrieval, prompt, response, and faithfulness score with seven-year default retention — long enough to outlast most matters, configurable for those that run longer.
Deployment is typically on-premises inside the firm's data center or in a customer-managed Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) that the IT department already operates. No documents, prompts, or model outputs cross the firm's perimeter in the default configuration.
Run a pilot on a single matter.
Most firms start with one practice group and one DMS connector. We scope, deploy, and have the matter team running searches in weeks, not quarters.
